Description

The Met x Eichholtz introduces the Object Lion, inspired by the naturalistic forms of ancient Egypt, embodying both elegance and strength.

With its dignified expression and stylized anatomy, this sandstone object brings a striking historical presence to modern interiors. True to the proportions and details of its ancient predecessor, the Object Lion reveals strength and serenity through lifelike features. A tribute to protective symbolism, it anchors the room with mythic gravitas.

HISTORIC PROVENANCE

This piece is an interpretation of an ancient Egyptian lion’s head made of gypsum plaster in The Met collection, originally used as a model for stone waterspouts on temple walls. Crafted during a time when lion imagery shifted from stylized forms to more naturalistic representations, it functioned as both an architectural element and spiritual guardian. Eichholtz captures the form and energy of the original with reverence.
